Aurora Biofuels Hires Oil Exec as CEO

Algae fuel business Aurora Biofuels Inc. hired Robert Walsh, who worked more than a quarter century at Royal Dutch Shell, as its CEO.

Matthew Caspari, who helped start Aurora and was its previous CEO, becomes vice president of business development.

Walsh also ran LS9 Inc., another biofuel business.

Alameda-based Aurora also set up a scientific advisory board including local scientist Krishna Niyogi, a plant and microbial biology professor at U.C. Berkeley.

Biology and biochemistry professor Robert Tijan, also from Cal, is quitting Aurora’s board April 1 to run the Howard Hughes Medical Institute.
